Managing and Marketing Organizations in an Era of Global Economic Uncertainty and Environmental Complexity

In this era of global economic uncertainty and environmental complexity, it is vital to have research papers in all areas that will shed some light on issues that are of paramount importance to managing and marketing business organizations successfully. The Academy of World Business, Marketing and Management Development (AWBMAMD) aims to share research knowledge that exists in the world in various functional areas of business through double blind review conference papers and publications. Manuscripts for the 4th Biennial 2010 AWBMAMD Conference are invited in terms of competitive papers, case studies, research in progress, special sessions and doctoral research papers in any of the various track areas which include marketing, management, finance, banking, accounting, human resource management, organizational behaviour, information technology and systems, foreign direct investment, e-business/ e-marketing, business and management in aviation industry, education administration, economics, tourism and hospitality, aviation and aerospace, transportations, health care, entrepreneurship, business law, leadership style, computer engineering, privatization, etc.

INSTRUCTION FOR PAPERS

    1. Manuscripts should be sent electronically to any one of the appropriate track chairs as an email attachment plus a copy to be sent electronically to the Executive Conference Director and Program Chair: Professor Gabriel Ogunmokun. Email: ogunmokun@academyofworldbusiness.com All manuscripts will be subjected to a double blind, peer review process. Although papers accepted for presentation as a result of the double blind peer review process will be published in the Conference Proceedings (subject to meeting AWBMAMD’s publication requirements), the publication of the papers is not an endorsement of the content of any of the papers by the Academy of World Business, Marketing and Management Development.  AWBMAMD is not responsible for any claims made in any of the papers accepted for publication in the proceedings. The authors of each of the papers are solely responsible for the content, referencing of their papers, grammar, theories, positions, and terminology, set forth in proceedings. The authors of each of the papers are also responsible for ensuring that manuscripts they have submitted for publication in the proceedings have not been published elsewhere and contain no material previously published or written by another person, except when due reference is made in the text of the paper. A full paper must be at least 5 pages long. The Conference Proceedings will be supplied to all conference participants and will have an ISBN. Since the conference is of national and international significance as it covers so many important business related areas, the proceedings will be made available for sale to the general public. Manuscripts should contain a 100 word abstract and conform to the Harvard style of writing or to the style of the American Psychological Association or follow any other acceptable referencing style. The manuscript must be clearly written without any spelling or grammatical errors. General style/format guide includes:
      • Competitive papers must be no longer than 15 pages (all inclusive). Work in progress papers must be no longer than 5 pages (all inclusive). Abstract only paper must not be more than one page. For every page that is over the specified number of pages, twenty Australian dollars (A$20) per page will be charged.
      • Manuscripts must not have been previously published.
      • Manuscripts should be single spaced, Times New Roman font, 12pt with 2.4cm margin on all four sides and using Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows 2003 or Windows 2007. The title of your paper must be written in bold capital letters using 12pt Times New Roman font. Although all sub-headings (e.g. ABSTRACT, INTRODUCTION, METHODOLOGY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSION) should also be in capital letters using 12pt Times New Roman font, they should not be written in bold letters.
      • All tables and figures should be incorporated into the body of the paper.
      • The paper should have two covers. The first cover should contain the title, abstract, full authorship, authors' academic degrees, professional titles, affiliations, postal and Email addresses, acknowledgment of research sponsors and assistance. This should then be followed by another cover that only indicates the article title and the abstract (this will be used for anonymous refereeing). This second cover should be followed by the full paper.

    2. Regarding publications in the conference proceedings, AWBMAMD conferences will allow authors to decide whether to publish the complete paper in the proceedings or to publish only the abstract. Upon acceptance of a paper, the author(s) agree that:

      1. At least one author will present the paper at the conference and must pre-register as a condition for publication in the conference proceedings and,
      2. The copyright will belong to the Academy of World Business , Marketing and Management Development unless they choose to publish only a one page abstract.

      The host university has organized for the cocktail party and conference dinner to be held at the following two venues.

      VENUE FOR COCKTAIL PARTY: The cocktail party venue on Monday 12th July 2010 will be held at Vanha paloasema Bar & Bistro from 6.30 p.m. till 8.15 p.m.

      CONFERENCE DINNER: The conference dinner on Wednesday 14th July 2010 will be held at Radisson Blu Hotel from 7 p.m. till 10.30 p.m.

      Market Square
      The old-time countryside spirit lives on in the booths and stalls of the Market Hall and Market Square. During the summer, get to know Oulu from the sea by taking one of the sea cruises that depart from the Market Square’s harbor.

      Rotuaari pedestrian street
      The lively pedestrian street in city centre has good shopping opportunities, several cafés and restaurants with summer patios, and a variety of events year-round.

      Science centre Tietomaa
      Themed exhibitions and over 200 items on display offer thrills of discovery for people of all ages. Tietomaa also invites you to see a giant cinema theatre, science store Sirius, café and restaurant Saturnus and a lookout tower.

      The botanical Gardens
      At the University of Oulu’s Botanical Gardens in Linnanmaa you can see plants native to our climate as well as decorative and useful plants.

      Oulu Cathedral
       Designed by Daniel Hagman, the Cathedral was completed in 1777. All of its wooden structures were destroyed in the great fire of 1822. The cathedral was rebuilt following the neoclassical drawings of the celebrated architect Carl Ludvig Engel. The reconstruction was completed in 1832. The cathedral is open from June to August from 11.00–21.00, and a guide is available for visitors.

      Turkansaari open-air museum
       The island of Turkansaari is home to an open-air exhibition of the peasant culture of people who have lived along the Oulu River over the centuries. The area has over 40 buildings, each housing exhibits.

      Northern Ostrobothnia museum
      The permanent collection of the museum takes you into the past of Oulu and the surrounding region. The “Doghill” exhibition, based on the books of Finnish author Mauri Kunnas, remains ever popular with children. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum organizes many seasonal exhibitions. The museum also has a gift shop and a café.

      Hupisaaret
      The wide park area of Hupisaaret offers great opportunities to enjoy nature right in the heart of the city. There’s plenty of space for a picnic, a large playground for children, and a cozy café in the area.

      Nallikari
      Even the most energetic outdoor enthusiast should have enough to keep them busy in the Nallikari area. Nallikari is a beautiful area within walking distance from the centre. It offers a beach, nature trails, tennis and squash courts, minigolf, ponies, a friendly camping site, spa, hotel and restaurant services.

      Potnapekka mini-train will drive you safely along the walkways in summer.
      Choose a route that will take you to the sea shore or along the river to Hupisaaret.

      Restaurants: Some of the restaurants in Oulu are:

      Sokeri-Jussin Kievari Finnish cuisine in an atmospheric old warehouse.

      Restaurant Uleåborginc 1881 Northern Scandinavian cuisine with an international twist. Extensive wine list, lounge bar, seaside patio in summer. Unique 1880s magazine setting.

      Restaurant Matala Excursions into French and Italian cuisine or local dishes. The house was built by sea captain and shipmaster Jacob Wilhelm Callmeijer in 1845.

      Restaurant Pannu Pan pizza and steaks are served in the traditional Pekurinkulma house in the Rotuaari pedestrian street.

      Shopping:It’ll easily take you the whole day to walk around the city centre’s shopping streets, Market Square’s booths and Stockmann department store. The Limingantulli area has several department stores, and Kempele, south of Oulu, boasts the Zeppelin shopping centre and Biltema department store.

      The city centres shopping streets are Rotuaari, Isokatu, Uusikatu, Kauppurienkatu, Pakkahuoneenkatu and Hallituskatu. When you find the Rotuaari, you’ll also find the Market Hall and Market Square. You can get to the Market Hall and Market Square easily from the Rotuaari by walking along the Kauppurienkatu. The stalls at the square with the Market Hall and the numerous booths in summer time offer great shopping opportunities.
